Warwickshire Cricket Board (WCB) is building on the success of its Midnight Ramadan Cricket League, which launched last summer, by developing a new adult tournament which is now open for registration.

Over three weeks of Ramadan, the opening times of the Edgbaston Cricket Centre are extending to midnight on Tuesday and Thursday to deliver the Ramadan Midnight League. Youths aged 16-24 will play on Tuesdays as part of the Chance to Shine Street programme with the adult tournament taking place on Thursdays.

The Edgbaston Cricket Centre will be open to players from 9pm on both nights for Iftar and teams can register for the Thursday night competition at by contacting WCB Community Cricket Development Manager Eaton Gordon.

Matches in the Thursday night Ramadan League will be based on The Hundred but adapted to an indoor setting with teams of six.

“The Ramadan Midnight League was launched last year to use cricket as the vehicle to bring young people together in a safe space, after Iftar. It was a great success, but we want to give more people the opportunity to play.

Eaton Gordon, WCB Community Cricket Development Manager

“The calendar timing of Ramadan makes it impossible to stage a structured tournament outside in the UK for several years, but hopefully we can maximise this opportunity within the Edgbaston Cricket Centre and create more opportunities each year.”
