Warwickshire has signed wicketkeeper George Maddy on a rookie contract for the 2022 Royal London Cup campaign.

Maddy, who is just 16, has impressed for the Second XI this season firing an unbeaten century against Worcestershire in a four-day match in June.

Son of former Warwickshire all-rounder and County Champion Darren, the talented left-hander has come through the Warwickshire Pathway and will now provide competition behind the stumps.

The Knowle & Dorridge Cricket Club product is likely to make his Bears debut against Cheshire in the National County on Sunday.

Director of Cricket, Paul Farbrace said: “George is a talented keeper/batter who deserves this opportunity in the Royal London Cup. With Alex Davies and Chris Benjamin playing in The Hundred, George will be able to learn and hone his skills within a first-team environment that is looking to win the competition.

“This experience will be perfect for his development and I’m sure he’ll be ready if called upon over the next few weeks.”

George Maddy said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I’m excited for the tournament to get going. Having been at the Club since a young age, it has always been my dream to play for the Bears and I hope I can fulfil that during the competition.”
