Marie Kelly’s women’s team are ready to take on Lancashire Women at Edgbaston this Sunday in a crunch fixture that could see Birmingham Bears Women return to the top of the Women’s T20 Division One.

The Bears have won two from two in T20 this season and Captain Marie expects Lancashire to be a tough test for the team. Marie said “Lancashire are only one point behind us and they’ll desperate to win to make up ground on Berkshire.”

“All of the teams around us have played an extra game and things are quite close at the minute, but a win of us would see us go back to the top spot and I think to would be a real statement from us to do that at Edgbaston.”

I hope that the crowd get behind us and help give us the edge over Lancashire

The Women’s team were due to play a double header last month, but unfortunately bad weather rained off the occasion. Sunday will be a second chance for Edgbaston to showcase women’s cricket and everyone is hoping for for a sunny forecast.

Marie said, “It was frustrating not to play our last game at Edgbaston, all the girls were excited and there was a decent crowd at the ground, unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. The good news is that the forecast looks good for Sunday and we hope that a lot of the crowd from the men’s game will stay on and watch us play. This is chance for us to show what we can do as a team and I hope that the crowd get behind us and help give us the edge over Lancashire.”

Entry for the Women’s game is completely FREE of charge and play will get underway around 6pm (fans can access Edgbaston for FREE from 5pm), subject to the completion of the men’s game vs Leicestershire Foxes. Edgbaston will be keeping a section bars and food concessions open for our women’s fixture and our stewards will be on site to assist with any queries on the day.
