Children from a Birmingham school visited Edgbaston Stadium to kindly lend their support to the BrumWish Christmas gift appeal.

The pupils from Anglesey Primary, Lozells spent time unboxing and sorting some of the thousands of presents donated by members of the public, Bears fans and businesses.

They also put Bears pair Alex Davies and Manraj Johal to work before the players gave them a tour of the stadium and handed over goodies, including junior cricket sets and Bears stationary.

We thanked the seven to 11-year-olds for their help by laying on a fun cricket coaching session at our indoor centre.

Anglesey Primary’s Business Manager Brian Baughan, said: “The children wanted to lend a hand with the toy appeal – and they’ve had a fantastic time getting involved in the coaching session with the team at Edgbaston. The guys made it great fun.

“Some of the children will never have played cricket before. It’s a brilliant experience for them, one they won’t forget, and hopefully will inspire them to play again in the future or join a club.

“We’re always looking for ways to open our pupils’ and parents’ eyes to the range of opportunities available to them, including cricket.”

BrumWish is a Christmas gift campaign in association with Edgbaston Foundation – the Club’s charitable arm – Birmingham Live, Thrive Birmingham and Birmingham Playcare Network.

It aims to provide toys and other Christmas gifts to children’s charities and families who are living in temporary accommodation during the festive period.

Last year an incredible 14,000 presents were donated to BrumWish at Edgbaston Stadium where the parcels are sorted before being distributed to children’s centres and charities across the city.

Fidelis Navas, Edgbaston Foundation Community Director, said: “There are more than 100,000 children in Birmingham living in poverty. BrumWish and all the partners are doing amazing things to spread some joy to youngsters in the city and we’re proud to play a part.

“We know times are tough for many people this year with the cost of living increasing. But if anyone can spare just a few pounds to buy a small toy or gift it would be hugely appreciated.”

Edgbaston Foundation, with support from the Club, will be contributing £1,500 to BrumWish which will be used to buy children’s trainers.

New and good-as-new gifts can still be donated to Edgbaston Stadium’s reception.
