More power in the mix

The recruitment of aggressive batter/wicketkeeper Alex Davies from Lancashire during the winter was a real statement of squad-building intent from the Bears.

Incumbent keeper Michael Burgess had a superb 2021 season, but now faces competition from 27-year-old Darwen-born Alex. The new signing arrived at Edgbaston with plenty of experience from 231 senior games across in the formats, in all of which his stats are impressive.

“This is a huge signing for the County and it shows the level of progress that our team is making. Alex has firmly established himself as one of the best players in the domestic game and he knows what it takes to win.”

Ever since making his Lancashire List A debut two days before his 17th birthday, Alex has excited spectators with his talents. His last appearance for the Red Rose came in the innings-and-199-run defeat to the Bears in the Bob Willis Trophy at Lord’s last year, so he knows all about the power of the squad he has come into.

As for that Burgess-or-Davies dilemma…well, there’s another solution – don’t be surprised if they both play as each is good enough to be picked as a specialist batsman.
