One of the best ever

Warwickshire recruited one of county cricket’s best and most respected seamers at the end of the 2022 season with the signing of Chris Rushworth from Durham, for whom is he the all-time leading wicket-taker.

Rushworth took his 600th first-class wicket in 2022 – and moved his red ball tally to 656 after a stunning start to life as a Bear.

The 37-year-old claimed 53 scalps in the LV= Insurance County Championship in 2023 – only five bowlers took more in Division One – including best of 7-38 in 13 overs as he dismantled Hampshire on the south coast.

“My body still feels strong, I still want to take wickets and win games of cricket and ultimately, I want to win trophies and that’s one of the reasons I joined the Bears. Hopefully I can help bring some success to Edgbaston.”

Rushy’s performances have earned him a one-year contract extension so the wicket machine will stay at Edgbaston until at least the end of the 2025 season.

“He’s a wicket taker, make no mistake,” said Bears First Team Coach Mark Robinson. “He wants to win another County Championship before he retires which is exactly the language you want to hear.”

Rushworth was previously described by Sir Ian Botham as “one of the best seam bowlers” English cricket has ever seen.
