Ready to make up for the lost season

The 2021 season was a glorious one for the Bears, pretty much the only negative was the rotten injury luck suffered by young batsman/spin bowler Mousley.

Given first-team opportunities in red and white ball cricket at the back end of the 2020 season, he seized them spectacularly.

His partnership with Ian Bell against Glamorgan in Cardiff in the latter’s farewell championship game was a glorious fusion of home-grown Bears batting aces from different eras.

“We’ve been keeping close tabs on Dan’s development for some time. We’ve been very encouraged with his performances for England U19s, Second XI, in the county age group teams and in club cricket.”

Long-regarded as a first-team regular sooner rather than later, Mousley would surely fly in 2021, only for him to suffer a broken finger early  in the season and then, when recovered from that, break another one – both time staking fielding practice hits from coach Jonathan Trott!

Mousley might try to avoid Trotty in fielding practice in 2022, when he will be keen to make up for his lost season last tome round.

“Dan is a talented lad with a bright future,” says batting coach Tony Frost. “And I’ve never seen anyone prouder to play for the Bears.”
