Top-drawer spinner heading for his peak

Danny was one of the standout contributors to the Bears’ title triumph in 2021, with ball, bat and as a calming, steady, dressing-room influence when the pressure was at its highest.

Briggs joined the Bears from Sussex in November 2020 with a track of record of top-level success. The slow left-armer had played eight times for England in white ball cricket and taken more than 500 wickets across all formats, but the Bears suspected his best years were still to come.

“For several years Danny has been widely recognised as one of the leading spinners in the county game and he is an excellent addition to our squad.”

All the evidence from 2021 is that they were spot on. His accurate, intelligent bowling was pivotal to some vital championship victories and his lower-order runs arrived at key times to turn the flow of several matches.

More than any other type of cricketer, spinners just get better and better and Warwickshire director of cricket Paul Farbrace’s assertion that the Bears will benefit from Danny’s peak years appears well-founded.
