Ready to seize a “big opportunity”

All-rounder Ed Barnard will add to the Bears’ squad in all departments after joining from neighbours Worcestershire on a three-year contract.

Born in Shrewsbury, Ed developed through the Worcestershire Academy and went on to harvest 4,890 runs and 370 wickets for the Pears. In 2022, he was the county’s leading first-class run scorer with 895 runs at an average of 60, while he added 31 wickets.

Now he is “extremely excited” to have joined Warwickshire.

“Edgbaston is a special place and it’s an atmosphere that doesn’t get matched around the country. To have this as my home is really exciting.”

“It’s a big opportunity for me,” Ed said. “I want to play at the highest level and I hope I can do this and win trophies with the Bears.”

The all-rounder is eyeing the first-team role that has been filled with such distinction in recent years by the likes of Rikki Clarke, Neil Carter, Keith Barker, Tim Bresnan and Chris Woakes. “I know some amazing all-rounders have gone before. I want to be that player in the team.”

In total, Barnard has played over 250 matches in his career across all formats, hitting five centuries and claiming five five-wicket hauls.
