Precocious natural talent

Jake is a top order batter and left-arm spinner of immense natural talent who has come through the Academy to earn a three-year professional contract.

Born in Barbados, Jake came to Warwickshire aged 12 as part of the Club’s relationship with Rugby School and its director of cricket, former Bears captain Michael Powell. He subsequently played for Warwickshire’s Under 13s county age group team and Emerging Players Programme before being awarded an Academy place in 2018.

“Edgbaston is my home and I’m delighted to extend my contract at Warwickshire. I really want to play my part in bringing success to the county and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

All Rounder

Bethell took adroitly to Second XI Championship and T20 cricket and trained with the England Young Lions squad at Loughborough before making his Bears first team bow, and looking entirely at home there, in 2021.

His powerful performances for England in the Under 19s World Cup in West Indies early that year, along with a composed and likeable temperament, suggest that Jake is ready to challenge for a regular Bears first team place in 2023.

He made his England Lions debut in early 2023, hitting two half-centuries as part of their tour in Sri Lanka.
