Something very different

Left-arm wrist spinner Jake has delivered one of the great stories of world cricket since joining the Bears for the 2020 Vitality Blast. His 4-0-13-1 that day was the start of an incredible journey.

He was immediately a revelation, tying up and tormenting batsmen who were suddenly confronted with something very different.

Batsmen love to attack the slower bowlers in T20 and, for Jake, it is always a case of ‘bring it on’. He loves that challenge.

His brilliant bowling for the Bears earned him a three-year contract, meaning that his teaching career has been put on hold.

In the last 18 months his skills have been in demand around the globe – for inaugural Hundred winners Southern Brave, for Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League and for Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Throughout the meteoric rise, Jake has remained as grounded as ever and, when abroad, kept in touch with the Bears fans through a warm and witty blog.  He is always a pleasure to deal with, unless you are the batsman facing him.
