Increasingly nifty

Wolverhampton-born all-rounder Matt has been in the Bears’ system since the age of nine. A product of North Bromsgrove School and Barnt Green CC, he scored consistently for the 2nd XI for a number of seasons, peaking in 2016 with a double-hundred and a hundred in successive innings.

Since then he has steadily, understatedly become a highly valuable member of the first-team squad. The 2021 season brought Lamb his maiden List A century and also career best List A bowling figures with increasingly nifty leg spin.

“We’ve got a strong squad and competition for places is always tough, but I just need to keep working hard and taking every opportunity that I can.”

Having stopped bowling medium pace due to back problems, Lamby has turned to leggies to good effect.

He also played a significant  role in the championship triumph with a number of meaningful contributions just when needed, including a violent cameo with the bat to help give the bowlers the time they needed to close out the historic last-day win over Somerset at Edgbaston.

Then the celebrations began and no-one relished them more than lifelong Bear Lamb.
