They make ’em tough in Halifax

6ft 7in seamer Olly joined Warwickshire from Yorkshire in 2013 and soon showed he is made of stern stuff by batting 78 minutes with a broken arm to save a game against Somerset at Taunton.

Almost a decade down the line, he is established as one of the leaders of the pace attack and as ‘Bear’ as can be. There is no-one more popular among players, fans or staff.

“He’s a very proud adopted Bear and I’m sure that many of our Members and supporters will be delighted that Olly will remain at Edgbaston until at least the end of the 2021 season.”

After first shining at Edgbaston in white-ball cricket, in recent years Big Ol has advanced his red-ball bowling to rank firmly among the best in county cricket. He has won all the trophies with the Bears and played a key part in each of those triumphs, the 2014 NatWest T20 Blast, the 2016 Royal London Cup and last year’s County Championship title.

Injuries kept him out of the closing weeks of 2021 but his input early in the season was integral to the Bears’ crucial qualification for the top tier which set up the glory. Already also influential as a coach of young players, OHD is a true all-rounder and Bears legend.
