The opening batsman, who missed the previous match at Essex due to an England Lions call-up, is excited to face Somerset in the County Championship.

Dom Sibley is in the form of his life.

The opening batsman has gained plenty of admirers in red ball cricket after scoring 940 runs in 16 innings, earning him a County Championship average of 62.66.

Personally, I’ll hit a lot of balls on Saturday to get used to opening, leaving balls and playing late.

The former Surrey man also holds a 37.75 average from four Vitality Blast games this season, showing his versatility in all three formats.

That’s what the Bears will rely on when they face Somerset on Sunday after a heavy bout of T20 fixtures.

“You’ve got no choice but to get on with it,” said the 23-year old.

“We’ve got one day of training on Saturday, so we’ve literally got to get on with it and be switched on mentally.

“Personally, I’ll hit a lot of balls on Saturday to get used to opening, leaving balls and playing late.

“It’s a lot different to the Vitality Blast where you’re constantly looking to go after it and score.

“I’m really enjoying the T20 and getting runs in that and before that it was going quite well in the red ball, so hopefully that continues.”

The Bears faced five away games on the trot with Edgbaston hosting the first Ashes Test.

During that time, the Bears picked up a win and two draws to build a cushion over last place Nottinghamshire.

But whilst the Bears were travelling the length of the country, Sibley, alongside Sam Hain, were rewarded with an England Lions spot.

It was a blow for Warwickshire but a valuable opportunity for the pair.

“It was a really good experience and it was nice to have a familiar face in Hainy with me,” Sibley added.

“They were a good Australia A side and hopefully I’ll get another opportunity at some stage.

“But now I’m back with Warwickshire and looking to continue from where I left off.

Somerset are one of the leading teams in the division, with one of the best attacks, so to get runs against them would be a positive.”
