Report: Kent v Warwickshire, Second XI Championship
More than 200 runs from Ethan Brookes and 11 wickets from Jacob Bethell powered Warwickshire 2nd XI to a 151-run win over Kent inside three days at Tonbridge.
Chasing 330 to win on the third day, the home side was bowled out for 178 as spinner Bethell added four wickets to his seven in the first innings for match figures of 11 for 167. Rob Yates took three for 22 as the youngsters spun their side to victory.
Two commanding innings from Brookes laid the platform for the excellent result. Batting first, the Bears were lifted to 378 as Brookes struck 137 (221 balls) supported by Yates (63) and George Maddy (51).
After Kent replied with 353 (Bethell seven for 107), Brookes was again in the runs with 81 in the Bears’ second innings, David Scott also batting fluently for 71.
Kent’s pursuit of their target was then undone by the spinners after seamers Tommy Rex and Che Simmons shared three early wickets.
