2026/27 Coaching Courses

The goal is to sustain and grow the number of people working in key roles across Warwickshire Cricket, supporting increased participation and involvement in the game. In collaboration with the England and Wales Cricket Board, a range of high-quality coaching courses are delivered to help new and existing coaches gain qualifications and remain involved in cricket long term.

New for 2026, the ECB ACO have launched their digital membership system, enabling individuals to join one of three membership tiers and benefit from monthly communications and insurance as part of their membership.

Support Coach

This programme has been designed to develop a learner’s knowledge, skills and confidence to support qualified coaches. An ECB Support Coach is not qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and therefore must be supervised by a qualified cricket coach.

Anyone aged 16 and over wishing to support qualified coaches, inspire players and make a difference to the game
One face-to-face module lasting three hours
Valid DBS and safeguarding training e.g. Safeguarding Young Cricketers or Safeguarding for Coaches and Activators
Two bitesize e-learning modules lasting 10-15 minutes each
Multiple choice question assessment

Foundation Coach

This programme has been designed to develop a learner’s knowledge, skills and confidence to use icoachcricket to coach safe, fun and inclusive sessions that ignite a lifelong love of the game. An ECB Foundation Coach will be qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and without supervision.

Anyone aged 17 and over wishing to become qualified to coach cricket, inspire players and make a difference to the game
Four face-to-face modules lasting three hours each, including three observed coaching opportunities
Seven bitesize e-learning modules lasting 10-15 minutes each
Multiple choice question assessment

Core Coach

This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead player-centred coaching sessions. An ECB Core Coach will be qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and without supervision.

Anyone aged 17 and over wishing to become qualified to coach cricket, inspire and develop players and make a difference to the game. Experience of playing or coaching cricket is desirable when applying for this programme
8 face-to-face modules lasting 3 hours each including 2 observed coaching opportunities
6 bitesize e-learning modules lasting 15-20 minutes each

Sam joined the Warwickshire Cricket Foundation as a casual coach and progressed into his current role. He is the main point of contact for all things coach development and is responsible for growing the number of coaches and volunteers across Warwickshire and Birmingham.

Coaching Bursaries

We offer bursaries for learners registering on ECB Support Coach, ECB Foundation Coach, or ECB Core Coach programmes. Click here to submit your bursary application.

Learners experiencing financial hardship may receive a bursary of up to 100% of the national programme cost.
Learners who are female, from ethnically diverse communities, or have a disability, but are not experiencing financial hardship, may receive a bursary of up to 50% of the national programme cost.

FAQ’s

How do I get an ECB DBS?

The DBS needs to be through the ECB DBS portal and your club safeguarding officer should be able to start the DBS process. If they are unable to start this process, email .

I already have a DBS through my work or personal life, does that suffice? Or does it need to be an ECB DBS?

To work with children and in cricket in England, you will need to complete an ECB DBS. To complete your qualification and gain a certificate you will need to have an up to date ECB DBS.

How do I know if I have completed my safeguarding for coaches and activators course?

Safeguarding for Coaches and Activators is available on the elearning portal. You will need to complete the safeguarding for specialist roles before being able to complete the safeguarding for coaches and activators course. Both must be completed in order to complete the safeguarding for coaches and activators course. At the end of the course, a video will show you how to download your certificate.

Do I need to attend all modules throughout the course?

Full attendance is a pre requisite for certification, so participants are expected to attend all modules.

Do I need to complete the Foundation Coach Course before moving on to the Core Coach Course?

You don’t need to complete the Foundation Coach Course before progressing onto the Core Coach Course, but we do strongly recommend you complete a Foundation Course first and you must have suitable experience of coaching and playing to be appropriate for this course.
